This site is a place for those working in ivory towers to learn more about rural Americans and vice versa. Blog contributors have lived in both places. Content on the site is intended to broaden perspectives and views rather than to inflame or divide. A good frame of mind for engaging might be, “Why do they think that?” rather than, “They’re wrong,” or, “They don’t understand.”

One author is from a tiny West Texas town. She got degrees from colleges and universities in Arkansas, Texas, and Georgia and now lives in the midwest where she is a professor at a public university.  Another is a preacher’s kid from rural Arkansas. He has also lived in Tennessee, Minnesota, Montana, and Iowa. He is a practicing optometrist.
